Quiet night at home ...

Lorenz and Margaret, two of the lovely ladies and good friends that I am fortunate to have at the golf club. It was so nice to be back... I had a really enjoyable day.

The nasturtiums in our back yard went wild whilst we were away, but they do look so pretty.

Home Sweet Home....

Saturday, 19 October 2013

On our way home .....we were lucky to have some wonderful views of the Swiss Alps from the air....

Goodbye London...hope we will return soon. There are 1000 buses like this one on the streets of London..I think they are cool.

An empty train...the Circle Line ...the trains without doors look quite weird...but interesting.

Ludgate Hill London...love the reflections in the windows.

A stunning day in London today...not too cool and so sunny...

Wednesday 16 October

Goodbye USA...
A traveling day today, drove from our camp ground in Freehold NJ to the camper hire company to return the van, from there we caught their shuttle to Newark airport, from there we caught the shuttle to JFK. At JFK airport we enjoyed several relaxing hours in the Admiral's Club, including a shower....definitely a highlight of the day. We flew into London at 6 am local time and caught the underground train to our hotel, alighting at Victoria Station.
Another highlight, I watched the movie "Guess who's coming to dinner?" During the flight...one of my all time favourites!

The Jersey shore....almost deserted at this time of year...even though it was so warm and sunny today.

Isn't he cute! He was scampering about outside our van this afternoon.

Tuesday 15 October

Morning walk...the little brook than ran through the campground we stayed in last night.

The Opera House in Thomaston...and a bright blue sky...pity we were leaving New England today.

Tuesday, 15 October 2013

Looking up into the trees this morning before we set off....another crisp and clear morning.

Mt Tom State Park....where we stopped for lunch today..and sat in the sunshine.

One of the beautiful churches in Litchfield Connecticut. There are so many like this in New England but I never tire of seeing them, they are so striking, especially when seen with the autumn colours of the trees.

View from the covered bridge in West Cornwall Connecticut.

Our campsite tonight in Thomaston, Connecticut...

I just love this. There are pumpkins everywhere ...we have even seen them growing in the fields. I want to take one home and put it on my door step.

I asked Peter to stand amongst the trees ...gives you some idea of how tall they are.

A gorgeous little lake we stopped to look at......

Deerfield , an historic town in Massachusetts , so beautiful. I just love the houses.

Beer by the fire...we had a camp fire tonight...just outside our van...cooked some hamburger patties and sausages and then sat and watched the flames...under the tall trees.

Sunday, 13 October 2013

Today was a really fabulous day....we saw so much of this stunning countryside , the colours of the trees are amazing...the rivers, towns, farms everything is so picturesque...photos cannot capture the beauty of the place. But...this little quilt shop was a real highlight...full of old quilts for sale...dating back to 1850.. Peter and I really enjoyed chatting to the owner ....and I bought the quilt I am holding...made in the early 1900 s...happy happy me!

Covered bridges in Vermont, near the town of Grafton...they are so beautiful and how lucky to see the horses passing through....

Saturday, 12 October 2013

The Saugerties Lighthouse, situated on the mudflats of the Hudson River, this morning Peter and I walked out through the tidal wetland to see it. Not your usual looking lighthouse. The second story is a Bed and Breakfast, booked out for the rest of the year.

The Hancock Shaker Village...was closed by the Shaker Ministry in 1960 but opened as a museum in 1961. This was a real joy to visit , I have always loved the Shaker furniture but to see this whole village just as it used to be was sensational.

View from Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts.  There were 360 degree views , all beautiful.

Penn Street Station  34 Street..here we are waiting for our train to New Jersey where we will pick up our RV (campervan )... Love Art Deco .

After picking up our van in Middletown we headed for Saugerties in upstate NY...using a Tomtom for the first time...so useful..this was one of our first glimpses of the colourful trees!

Our camp ground for tonight in Saugerties...I walked down and took some photos and then directed Peter with the van into the vacant spot on the right. Isn't it pretty and soooo quiet.

Wednesday 9 October

New York Museum of Modern Art...thoroughly enjoyed it , not only the paintings and exhibits but was quite taken with the building itself.

Pumpkins ( we have seen a lot of these!) in the Chelsea Markets...such an interesting place to visit.

The incredible Flatiron Building

Eataly in Chelsea...our final meal in New York...and the best pizza I think I have ever eaten...

Tonight we had the extreme pleasure of seeing the New York Metropolitan Opera perform Eugene Onegin at the Lincoln Centre. What a fabulous night...the atmosphere, the venue, the music, the costume...it was all quite spectacular.
