Vatnsoyrar...tide is out....and black sand...

Peter had booked us on a boat trip to Mykines Island where we hoped to see the puffins. The boat trip was fantastic...

We were so lucky with the weather...this is Mykines Island...

The small village on the island...

We went on a guided hike to see the puffins. You are not allowed to wander around the island without a guide...it is bad for the environment, scares the puffins away and is dangerous. Our guide was a delightful young lady...we learnt a lot about the history of Mykines.

Not only did we have the glorious weather...we saw the puffins, hundreds of them.

Not only were the puffins beautiful..the coastline was breathtaking.

I thought Pete looked quite at home in this Nordic country...

Aren't they so cute....they fly very quickly, like little jet planes.

They mate for life...

They come back to the same burrow every year....

They were my number one reason for coming to the Faroe Islands and I was so thankful to have seen them.

There was an optional walk down to the village which Pete and I took.

The path was along the coast line....amazing scenery...

On our way back into the village...

... and then another walk to see the puffins on the ocean... enjoyed seeing the sheep on the way...

The boat trip home...

It was as exciting as the trip to the island.

The Captain took us to some of the more interesting areas on the island's coastline.

Handsome ...

Goodbye Mykines Island...

Certainly a day to remember.

June 11

Goodbye Copenhagen,  Hello Faroe Islands

Danish bread for breakfast....we have tried two different loaves and both have been delicious.

Egg on toast followed by kiwi fruit and blueberry Skyr yoghurt...

A rainy morning....luckily we didn't have to walk too far to the bus stop...we caught the bus to the train station and then the train to the airport...without getting too wet.

Copenhagen airport is very attractive and modern....gorgeous wood floors on the upper levels...and it took us only about 15 minutes to check our luggage in.

Our plane....

First view of the Faroe Islands. I didn't have a window seat but the lady who did took this photo for me (how sweet of her). We couldn't have asked for nicer weather for our landing.

The airport is on the island called Vagar and we are staying at the Hotel Vagar for our first two nights. It has recently been refurbished so everything looks brand new. After dropping off our suitcases at the hotel we set off to have a look at the villages close by. Above is a photo of the harbour in Sorvagur, where we will be catching a boat tomorrow. ( We have hired a car).

Honestly I could not stop saying "Oh isn't it all amazing"...sooo gorgeous...and we had some sunshine...

There are plenty of houses like these....love them...

Turn the corner and there is another beautiful scene.....

The sheep roam everywhere just as they do in Iceland. lots of black ones here in the Faroes...and lots of black, baby lambs....so cute.

The taller mountains are in the clouds....

Spot the black and white cows...and the creek running towards the ocean....

...then a waterfall....called Mulafossur and the small town behind is Gasadalur...awesome..

This photo was taken by a couple that were also at the falls.

Another little town close by...Sandavagur....most of the coastline that we have seen so far has black or dark coloured sand. What a day...finished nicely with a delicious dinner at our hotel.
