Our unit is second from the right...overlooks the town, water and mountains....the Guest House is just below us...
Where we stopped for a walk...or rather a climb...not this mountain though...
We walked the Gonguturur Hiking Route...in the photo we are about half way up and the view is sensational...the little town in the valley below is Funningur.
As we climbed higher we could see more of the Funningsfjordur...
There are many salmon farms....the water was so still today..
Looking up.....
These sheep can certainly climb....
They are probably thinking that they were here first...
Just plod along...not frightened of the car at all...
After our walk which we really enjoyed we drove down to Funningur....this is their famous church. It is one of ten remaining artful wooden churches built between 1829 and 1847. Prior to this church, four churches have resided on the same spot.
The town is quite quaint....the mountain in the photo is the one we have just climbed.
A beautiful painting on the concrete foundation of this house...
Every town has a number of streams that run through the houses into the sea...and they are often lined with buttercups.
There are some talented artists living in the Faroes..these statues were displayed in the village.....this man Grimr Kaman was the first settler the Faroe Islands...the artist is Hans Pauli Olsen.
And there was another sculpture by Hans Pauli Olsen.....it too was beautiful...
Most of what we have seen so far on the islands are artists telling us stories of the Faroe Island's history.
Stairs down to the Elduvik Gorge....
This was where the boats would unload their cargo years ago...
The mountains on either side of the Funningsfjordur are unique...
The sun will be setting at 11.21 tonight....Pete and I decided to go for a walk after our excellent dinner. It is our last evening in Gjogv and we wanted to take advantage of the light. These flowers are buttercups and they are everywhere.
