Vagar Island to Eysturoy Island
Our last stop on Vagar Island...Sandavagur...we stopped for petrol but also to see this church. There have been six churches on this site in the last 330 years. This current church was built during the First World War. It is the oldest church in the Faroes that is both designed and built by a Faroese.
To drive from Vagar to Streymore Island we had to go via this sub-sea tunnel.
And then from Streymoy Island to Eysturoy Island we travelled across this bridge.
Eidi....a small town we passed through...
So many sheep....
Some wonderful views of the coastline....and sheep
Funningur town and Funningfjordur (Fiord)...
Several high mountains in this area...some with snow ....
The sheep seem to be unafraid of cars...they slowly leave the road...
We arrive at our destination... Gjogv, a small town facing the Atlantic Ocean ...
Very pretty town...
....with a few gardens of spring flowers...
Once settled in our accomodation we set off on a walk taking us high up the hill overlooking the town.
Lovely views of the town and ocean...
The mountains in the distance are on Kalsoy Island.
.....the valley...
It was pretty cold and windy...
Coming down....you can see where we walked from....that narrow headland...
The Gjogv gorge where the boats can come in .....
And we saw more puffins....
....and plenty of lambs...aren't these three cute...
It is the time of year when they shed their coat of wool....there are pieces of wool everywhere...
...so many different colours....
Good name for a beer in this part of the world....
