Monday October 7

An overcast day in New York this morning, ideal for walking the High Line , now a public space but previously a railway line down in Chelsea. I loved these stained glass windows in an old factory and the unusual perspective that the raised platform provided of the city streets below.

Tenement building in the Lower East Side...we visited the Tenement Museum, which was excellent and then wandered the streets and had lunch at a rather trendy little cafe ( there were plenty of them)... The area really reminded us of Brunswick St in Melbourne.

Dark clouds....in Chinatown as we headed for the subway after our walk around the lower east side, a very interesting and lively place.

Sunset in Manhattan...reflected from one window into the other..in our apartment.

Wonderful classical guitarist busker at our station, Columbus Circle this evening....we were on our way to Chelsea for dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant that friends had recommended.

Columbia University...The Lowe Library...what a fabulous campus this university has. From here we walked down Central Park West enjoying all the beautiful architecture on one side and Central Park on the other.

We visited the American Folk Art Museum...as well as quilts from the 1800 s they also had two exhibitions of works by contemporary quilters ( both male)... The quilt above is actually made of paper...recycled envelopes!

Macy's department store...I loved their wooden escalators...we managed to buy a few things as well.

The Empire State Building...as it looked when we came out of Macy's...it was in fog when we started shopping .

View from our apartment window at night...it is rather difficult not to look into other people's windows!
