Fjaerland to Bergen

A cloudy, very still morning in Fjaerland....

We left this wonderful place after breakfast this morning ....a long drive back to Bergen.

Lovely reflections even though there was no sunshine...it felt incredibly calm.

Fjaerland....I took this photo from the other side of the fiord.

Had to catch yet another ferry.....this one was much bigger than those that we have been on...there were so many cars and camper vans on the road this morning, it's the beginning of the school holidays this weekend.

Big ship...bigger mountains...

Honestly I haven't fiddled with this photo...that is how those mountains looked...they reminded me of scrunched alfoil....really weird.

This was a beautiful view...near the town of Voss

We arrived in Bergen in the afternoon ....dropped our bags at our hotel, took the car to be charged and then returned it to the hire company. We walked back to the hotel and saw this on our way...interesting, we thought.

Apartments....

A striking mural...

A large seagull....there are so many in Norway and they are huge...I guess it is because they have so much surrounding water. Going to bed early tonight as we have an early flight tomorrow to Tromso in Northern Norway.

Fjaerland

Our view this morning at breakfast....

The sitting room at the hotel....

Little antiques are on old pieces of furniture...

Beautiful clock...and many paintings of the surrounding mountains and fiords are on the walls..,

Fjaerland Fjordstove Hotel....it was built in1937 as a guesthouse...and has been renovated over the years...

Not a very sunny day today...a little rain and cloudy...

Pete and I went kayaking despite the weather and we were glad we did.

The sun came out for a while ....

I love it when the water is like glass...in the distance you can see the Jostedal Glacier, the largest glacier in mainland Europe.

The white building is our hotel.

It did rain a little ...

It was two hours of absolute joy...this place is amazing....

Fjaeland is a typical fjord village, but it has one thing that makes it a little different and that is that it is called the Norwegian book town. There are second hand books in nearly every public building. Pete and I were pleased that they had put all the English language books in separate shelves.

Every year they have a writer's festival and we were told that the town becomes very busy.

Yet another flower that I have never seen before.

There was a wedding today in the town's church...the bells were ringing.

On our way to see the glacier...

This part of the Jostedalsbreen (glacier) is called Boyabreen ....

....the area surrounding the glacier ....

This fabulous cafe with the view of the glacier was where we sat and ate dinner ....

.....was impressed with the fire place...

Kalvag to Fjaerland , Norway

Before leaving Froya Island Pete and I drove to the lighthouse...so nice to see the coastline..

Not only were there sheep wandering on the roads, there were cows and calves as well...I was lucky she didn't go for my phone.

Fantastic mural in the town of Maloy .... on our way to Fjoerland...

Lots of pretty gardens in this town...

Kjolsdalen....we are starting to see more mountains and fiords...

The mountains are enormous ....

A stop in Starheim...the grass is so green ...

Nordfjordeid

Innvik..

Utvik....unbelievably beautiful

Very healthy looking animals...

Byrkjelo....have no idea how to pronounce it....

And it started to rain...but we were nearly at our hotel...thank goodness

Our cosy room in the Fjaerland Fjordstove Hotel...it is very old but decorated beautifully...and we are next to the fiord...and our room overlooks the water....
