Fjaerland

Our view this morning at breakfast....

The sitting room at the hotel....

Little antiques are on old pieces of furniture...

Beautiful clock...and many paintings of the surrounding mountains and fiords are on the walls..,

Fjaerland Fjordstove Hotel....it was built in1937 as a guesthouse...and has been renovated over the years...

Not a very sunny day today...a little rain and cloudy...

Pete and I went kayaking despite the weather and we were glad we did.

The sun came out for a while ....

I love it when the water is like glass...in the distance you can see the Jostedal Glacier, the largest glacier in mainland Europe.

The white building is our hotel.

It did rain a little ...

It was two hours of absolute joy...this place is amazing....

Fjaeland is a typical fjord village, but it has one thing that makes it a little different and that is that it is called the Norwegian book town. There are second hand books in nearly every public building. Pete and I were pleased that they had put all the English language books in separate shelves.

Every year they have a writer's festival and we were told that the town becomes very busy.

Yet another flower that I have never seen before.

There was a wedding today in the town's church...the bells were ringing.

On our way to see the glacier...

This part of the Jostedalsbreen (glacier) is called Boyabreen ....

....the area surrounding the glacier ....

This fabulous cafe with the view of the glacier was where we sat and ate dinner ....

.....was impressed with the fire place...

Kalvag to Fjaerland , Norway

Before leaving Froya Island Pete and I drove to the lighthouse...so nice to see the coastline..

Not only were there sheep wandering on the roads, there were cows and calves as well...I was lucky she didn't go for my phone.

Fantastic mural in the town of Maloy .... on our way to Fjoerland...

Lots of pretty gardens in this town...

Kjolsdalen....we are starting to see more mountains and fiords...

The mountains are enormous ....

A stop in Starheim...the grass is so green ...

Nordfjordeid

Innvik..

Utvik....unbelievably beautiful

Very healthy looking animals...

Byrkjelo....have no idea how to pronounce it....

And it started to rain...but we were nearly at our hotel...thank goodness

Our cosy room in the Fjaerland Fjordstove Hotel...it is very old but decorated beautifully...and we are next to the fiord...and our room overlooks the water....

Vaerlandet Island to Kalvag on Froya Island

Another glorious morning

A cute little house down by the pier....

On board the ferry....goodbye Vaerlandet Island

The ferry rides are getting us and our car from A to B but we also enjoy the scenery.

First time charging the car...Pete had downloaded the App but we were having trouble reading the Norwegian instructions. Luckily a local came to charge his car and could give us some help.

We drove north ...through some beautiful snow capped mountains...

....and were so excited to see the stunning fiords...

Our destination....Kalvag on Froya Island....We are staying in the building with the green door...
....it is one of many of the Hotel Knutholmen which has been run by a family for three generations....not only are we impressed with our room, we also had dinner this evening in the dining room and it was sensational.

After dinner Pete and I went for a long walk...it's great to have so many hours of daylight in the evening...

Two really short fishing boats...

Such a pretty town...

Loved the heart made of vines...

Goodnight Kalvag....
