Good Morning  Bergen

I'm loving our breakfasts in this part of the world. Their bread is delicious and so is the smoked salmon...I have yoghurt and muesli before my eggs and a pancake and coffee to finish.

Walking to the Floibanen (name of the mountain) Funicular.

Pete and I noticed many Rainbow Flags...I was curious so did a search in Google. It was Pride Week in Bergen at the beginning of June.

The queue to travel up the mountain on the Funicular was a mile long so we decided to visit the Bergen Fortress. It is one of Norway's oldest and best preserved fortifications. There are a number of buildings, including a castle within the fortress.

The views were wonderful...

Quite an amazing place with plenty of history...

The queue was still long so we walked up the mountain....

...it was a beautiful walk...a little tiring..

....but worth the effort to see the fantastic views at the top...

And what a glorious day to see this attractive city.

Faroe Islands to Bergen Norway

A couple of photos I took this morning in our street...notice how clean everything is...

We caught an early flight from the airport in the Faroes Islands to Copenhagen. We had to walk out to the tarmac and up the back stairs.

And after a two hour wait in Copenhagen we caught a flight to Bergen in Norway...and had to go out onto the tarmac. Both flights were enjoyable.

Pete and I caught the Light Rail from the airport to our hotel. Obviously they allow dogs on the light rail...when this charming fellow left the train another popped on.

The light rail...more like a tram but goes much faster.

Walking to our hotel....

Our hotel...Hotel Zander K...

Since the sun was out we left our bags at the hotel and went for a long walk to see the sights in Bergen.

Some gorgeous old buildings ....we are near the centre of town and the old town.

So many flowers...

It is so much warmer than the Faroes...

I'm so impressed....so much to see in Bergen...looking forward to tomorrow.

Pete and I were on our way to Vestmanna when we spotted these windmills....

It was a beautiful scenic drive ....

Vestmanna....the town's  hydropower plant has produced electricity for 65 years.

The town itself ....

I couldn't resist the reflection...

Pete and I went on this boat for a tour of the bird cliffs and caves north of Vestmanna.

The boat took us into deep grottos and around high-rise sea stacks, carved and shaped by nature through millions of years. These bird cliffs used to serve as a source of food in the old days. The Faroese farmers still gather their sheep on the seemingly inaccessible, steep mountain sides. We saw seagulls, gannets and puffins and of course plenty of sheep.

Looking on the other side of the boat.

On the return trip to the town the wind was stronger and it started to rain...it's pretty cold if Pete is wearing gloves and beanie...but what a terrific ride it was.

Our last night in the Faroe Islands...we went to this Japanese restaurant that was close to our hotel. The food was delicious.
